Dr. Adem Merter Birson is Musical Director of Koro Arkadaş. He serves on the Music Faculty at New York University. He is a graduate of Cornell University and Queens College, CUNY. Dr. Birson has studied oud performance and makam theory with Yurdal Tokcan, Necati Çelik, and Alper Karaağaçlı. He also teaches oud privately through Turkish Ud Lessons.

The most important part of becoming a member of Koro Arkadaş is the word arkadaş, or "friend," in Turkish. We are a group of amateur and professional music lovers who wish to share the beauty of Turkish culture through music. We don't judge you for your musical abilities, but rather encourage you through friendship and practice. Some members are better than others, but that doesn't really matter. What matters most is a healthy environment where we can enjoy making music in the company of good friends.
